Portable Marine GPS
Detail-Rich Marine Applications

As the GPS technology improves, portable marine GPS devices were created to serve more specific applications. In addition to those installed in automobiles, we now see GPS systems in aircraft, fishing boats and in some fitness gadgets such as the sports watch-heart monitors.

Much improvement has been done to the design of marine units. Somehow, fishermen and seafarers can better relate to its practicality in increasing fishermen's catch as well as seafaring safety.

These systems are specifically made for all seafarers. Thanks to its global positioning capabilities, sea mapping and navigation are now done with better accuracy and increased safety.

Using more than 20 satellites guiding your way through your target location, those times of getting lost at sea have become a thing of the past. This enabled all seafarers, particularly the Coast Guard, to do their work more effectively.

The pursuit of creating the best GPS system for marine use continues. With the growing demand of portable marine GPS, we have seen a growing number of GPS brands and device models offering detail-rich marine applications.

Right from the box, marine GPS gadgets have earned marketing leverage in offering advanced technologies such as chart plotting, WAAS with new radar and sonar technologies. To integrate more precise and smoother 2D or 3D graphics, waterproof LCDs have been integrated with easy scrolling, zooming, plotting and route planning and saving have become standard marine GPS features.

But what exactly sets a portable marine GPS apart from any other GPS devices? For one, it is loaded with an extensive amount of data about sea navigation. Similar to car GPS systems, the devices come preloaded with all pertinent maps, which is helpful in navigating the world's ports, excellent fishing locations and more.

The use of GPS integrated radar and sonar technologies made it easier for all fishermen to pinpoint the location where the bigger catch lies. Secondly, its advanced technology enabled everyone on the sea to plan their route, determine their exact location or create alternative routes in the event of emergency.

At any point, it also enables everyone to determine their exact location. Lastly, with the effective and smart use of these features, cases of sea collisions, injuries and minor to extreme damage to vessels has significantly been reduced.

One common misconception about marine GPS devices is that they require a considerable amount of seaman's knowledge to be operated. This is not exactly the case. It can easily be used by any novice man or woman, through his or her boating or fishing adventures.

The practical use of the device starts off as you bring it to sea. In terms of voyage planning, its accurate global positioning capabilities become its vital advantage, thanks to its comprehensive electronic maps.

In the past, the use of portable marine GPS was limited to the Coast Guard, guiding them through their rescue and life-saving missions. Now, it is loaded with a number of GPS and fish and depth finding features to help people yield more fish and enjoy a safe trip over the seas.
