Motorcycle GPS Navigation
How is it Different?

Motorcycle GPS navigation is very important for two reasons: safety and convenience. Due to the high speeds that can be achieved from motorcycles and the lack of exterior protection, it is much easier to get into accidents and the results can be lethal.

Good GPS navigation devices have built-in features that detect any road signs that you may have missed so you can be more aware just by paying attention to the GPS.

Some riders take the incorrect or lengthy route to get from one place to another. There might be some lanes where motorcycles may not even be allowed. A GPS device can help greatly in situations like this and make the trip smoother without many problems.

Notable Differences and Similarities when compared to Traditional GPS Units

These units are obviously smaller than their smallest automotive counterparts just so they can be mounted to any motorcycle. Since they are slightly smaller, they are equipped with a less powerful processor, but their performance still exceed the performance of budget GPS devices.

On the similarity side, motorcycle units have the same interface as the other units just so people that are familiar with the interface won't have difficulty in making adjusting to the device. The more expensive models have features and technologies that are built into their best selling devices so riders should be happy with any GPS solution as long as it is accurate enough.

Recommended Brands and Models

Garmin Nuvi 550 and 660 and the TomTom RIDER devices are among the best brands to get right now. Some cell phones have GPS software as well and you can mount them to your motorcycle so that you have access to all the information that you need while riding or just staying idle and planning a route.

Although these devices are called motorcycle GPS navigation units, they can still be used for traveling on foot because they are compact and use the same technology in accurately determining your position. Every motorcycle rider that wants a smoother and safer experience on the road should definitely consider getting one.
