Magellan Marine GPS
Maps for the Water

Spending time on the water can be great fun, but there are no street signs out there so you need a way to know where you are going. A Magellan Marine GPS is the perfect solution. You load it with the latest charts and it can determine exactly where you are within 3 feet of your actual location.

Charts are maps for the water, but they have additional information such as the depth of the water. This is important for you to know so that you do not run aground.

With a Magellan Marine GPS you can plot your course from where you start to where you want to end up. The GPS will draw a line connecting the two points. You can adjust this line to go around any shallow spots by adding extra points along the route, called way points. Once you put in the start, the finish and the waypoints, then it is just a matter of playing connect the dots.

It will tell you which direction to go to get from one way point to the next. It can also tell you how fast you are going. This is helpful because this lets you know your actual speed over the bottom. Sometimes this will be different than the speed your speedometer says because of the current.

If the current is with you then you will be going faster than the speedometer says. If the current is against you then you are really going slower across the bottom then the speedometer tells you. This will help you to know how long your trip will take.

The Magellan Marine GPS can also be integrated with your auto pilot so that it can steer the boat along the course that you have entered.

This is very useful because just as the current can slow you down or speed you up it can also push you sideways. So just because you are pointing in the right direction on the compass does not mean that that is the exact direction you are going. But the GPS knows how to take that into account and keep you on the correct course. In fact it may be better at steering the boat then you are!

If you are going out on the water with family or friends then the Magellan Marine GPS is a great investment in your piece of mind. If you are in your home water where you go all the time then you will already have all of your way points entered into the system so you just select the right ones and off you go.

It can even save an entire route in its history so you just select the route and it automatically knows where all the waypoints are. This takes all the stress out of navigating on the open water or in rivers with dangerous shoals.

Even those traditionalist who go Cruising in their Wooden Boats count their GPS as essential equipment.

As GPS sets become more affordable the inclusion of a spare hand-held set sealed in a watertight container along with spare batteries has become a standard safety precaution among boaters.

No more guessing which point of land is the one you should be looking for. And no more getting stranded on that tricky sand bar that is tough to maneuver around. The Magellan Marine GPS will get you where you are going without any worries. That means that you will be free to relax and enjoy the ride.
