Magellan GPS Companion communicates with the standard NMEA 2.1 communications protocol supported by most GPS and mapping software.

Note: It has been some time (2002-2004), whereas the Nav Companion software for the Palm was pretty good, the Rand McNally mapping software needed some major improvements. This problem could easily have been corrected by now.
