Lowrance H2O GPS What's The Story?
If you are wondering what the story is behind the Lowrance H2O GPS, you aren't alone. This waterproof GPS gets great customer reviews as a reliable boating and car navigation system, but the H2O has been discontinued, for some unknown reason.
You can still find this popular waterproof navigation unit on the Internet auction websites and some online retailers may still have limited supplies at discounted prices. The map that comes with the "Plus" package is incredibly detailed and the reception is great, besides the waterproof-sealed case, makes it truly waterproof. While the Lowrance H2O GPS delivers everything promised, going an entire day on the batteries, it is lacking a touch-screen, auto-routing and voice navigation. The menu interface is easy to maneuver, but it seems the folks at Lowrance had other ideas, if you look at the models they are offering as replacements. Also known as the iFinder H20C in the Legacy Products line, the replacement models are in the Endura Product lines, for marine and outdoors. If you look at the description of the iFinder C model, it is boasted as "one of the most popular handhelds offered" by the company, with a "crystal-clear color display, 16-channel GPS precision, sporty styling, dual processors and a high-res color screen, besides the sure-grip rubber welt seal", which provides a waterproof seal. When looking at the descriptions of the offered replacements in the Endura products line, you will find the Endura Sierra, Endura Safari and Endura Outback, are the suggested choices. While the Endura Sierra touts a lot of technological capability, including some topographic maps for the outdoors, it doesn't offer the simplicity or waterproof operation of the H2O GPS. While the Endura Safari is touted as the "most versatile handheld GPS for outdoor adventures", it features a touch-screen, but again, it isn't a specific waterproof unit. The Endura Outback offers touch-screen and it can be upgraded with additional outdoor content, but the waterproof capability isn't mentioned in this unit, either. Could it be that technology has taken the place of the basic functionality and durability the Lowrance H2O GPS offers? If you start looking at the story behind the discontinuation of the H2O, it doesn't really make any sense, but there are many people that still want a truly waterproof GPS that offers ease of use and one that performs the basic functions you require for fishing in the rain or camping and hiking in high humidity situations or during a storm. While there are plenty of other models to choose from if you are searching for a touch-screen, the Lowrance H2O GPS is a great, basic model for the outdoorsman that doesn't want to spend much more than a couple hundred dollars for an outdoor navigation system. There are other models made by popular GPS manufacturers, but you are unlikely to find one that has the waterproof capabilities of the Lowrance in this price range. In fact, you might expect to pay twice as much and maybe more, so if you are able to locate this most popular model, don't hesitate to purchase it quickly!
