How Does GPS Work on a Laptop?
There are two types of GPS systems that can be used on a laptop. The first one is called the Direct Connection GPS. This GPS system requires direct Line of Site (LOS) to the satellite in order to receive a a signal to your laptop.Blue tooth is another way of using the GPS on your laptop. This wireless Bluetooth can be connected to your laptop and needs to be at a distance of 30 feet or less from your laptop. The connection does not depend on the line of site. As long as the blue tooth remains near the laptop the connection will be maintained. In case of this kind of a GPS system all you need to do is to simply get a Blue tooth GPS receiver which will transmit the information to your laptop. You can also use an external antenna. You can use a PCMCIA or CF card that works by connecting the laptop directly with the receiver. The laptop GPS system is quite a cheaper prospect as compared to the handheld GPS systems. A laptop GPS can help in a number of ways like route planning, locating a place and many more such tasks. The laptop should also have satellite capability which can help it in connecting and receiving signals from the satellite. Most people find these GPS laptops better than the smaller handheld devices due to the superior graphics quality and more user friendly features. These receivers can be attached to the computer via serial connections or USB.
