GPS Golf Pro - What Are The Advantages To Having Your Own?

Through the use of the GPS technology, it is possible to use your own GPS golf pro to help you master courses in all different locations.

It used to be that golfers who were new to a particular golf course might take golf lessons from the course golf pros to master their favorite courses.

The reasons that many golfers have turned to this newer method of gaining an advantage is that they can download software programs and apps to their iPhone, PDA or Smartphone and find out much of the information they need to know about golf courses that are unfamiliar to them.

Many golfers that are new to the GPS golf pro method aren't sure about the advantages and whether it is worth the money spent on handheld devices or the golf GPS software programs and memberships.

While there are many software apps that can give you aerial views of courses, offer golf course scorecards with pars and help you determine where hazards are and the distance to the next hole, there might be some disadvantages, too.

The advantages might include:

  • You have the ability to learn about new courses that are unfamiliar and help you avoid hazards or help you adapt the right strategy.

  • It is less expensive than a traditional pro that can hardly advise you on every course.

  • There are golf GPS software programs that offer an annual membership and free golf course downloads, taking very little memory, with fast syncing and updates.

  • You gain an advantage over other players that don't have the luxury of GPS technology or the electronic devices to help them get the most out of every course.

  • There are various price levels of handheld golf GPS devices and software programs to choose from with varying capabilities, so you can find one that suits your budget.

On the other hand, there might be some disadvantages including:

  • Some handheld golf GPS devices can cost a few hundred dollars, annual memberships can be $60 and each golf course information download can cost $20, making it fairly expensive for golfers that try a lot of different courses.

  • Not all golf courses are plotted or mapped and some aren't accurate, making the devices and software useless in some situations.

  • Some software programs freeze-up, hog memory and aren't functional enough to enjoy playing the game and dealing with the frustrations at the same time.

  • Some golfers feel that the GPS golf pro takes all the guesswork and anticipation out of the game and gives certain players an unfair advantage, when they are using these products against players that aren't.

These are just a few of the points to consider about these devices and software, but the players that use them enjoy learning more details and getting a good overview of the courses they are playing. There are affordable options available and more golf courses are being plotted and mapped every day, improving the possibilities for using a GPS golf pro to help you gain an advantage over your competitors.
