GPS for Cell Phones

The advent of GPS for cell phones has led to an expansion in cell phone functions. The advancements in cellular technology have enabled man to watch movies, download songs, and even enjoy live matches on the net. Now, a cell phone has become much more than merely a device to talk. It can help you to keep a tab on your children and find your way around.

GPS cell phones have an inbuilt GPS receiver. This GPS receiver connects with at least three to twelve geostationary satellites. IT then deciphers the signals with the help of inbuilt software that eventually helps in locating the receiver's location on the planet.

These days a number of cell phone companies are manufacturing phones that have an inbuilt GPS receiver. However, even if the phone does not have a built in GPS, it can still be converted into a GPS for cell phones with the help of an external GPS receiver that is often connected with the help of a blue tooth wireless connection or a USB port. Blue tooth is a technology used to communicate wirelessly amongst two nearby devices using data and voice.

Whether you use in-built GPS for cell phones or one with an externally connected GPS, both of them can help you to access maps, routes, and driving instructions that are often accompanied by voice.

The built in GPS is naturally a more feasible option, as you don't have to worry about any kind of external wiring or devices.

You don't need to download anything from your desktop, every time you need something. You can merely keep it in your pocket while walking or place it on the windshield holder in your car and use it to find your way to your destination.

Nevertheless, using GPS means that you need to subscribe to some sort of a special GPS plan with the cell phone company. Many may require you to subscribe to their data service while many don't. Most of these GPS plans cost anything between $10 to $25 per month. There are some that vary depending on the usage. You can use Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobil, or Nextel to subscribe to different kinds of GPS plans.

Besides the added convenience, GPS for cell phones also helps in neutralizing the obstructions and enhancing the accuracy of the signals. As the phone utilizes the signals emitted by the cell phone tower to rectify or amplify the cell phone signals, this allows the phone to work better in forest areas or buildings. However, this also has an associated drawback that the GPS only works in areas that have the cell phone service.

Other benefits include a quicker access to police or emergency services that helps people to locate the position of the used cell phone quickly. This is why, the E911 calls are a norm. According to the FCC legislation, the E911 calls are those that help in identifying the information about the location of the call.

With the passage of time and more innovations in technology, there are likely to be more advancements in future GPS phones. They are likely to play a more important role in navigation. Whether, it is about using the tracking signal to know the speed, or the route to your destination or your approximate arrival time based on your speed and change in location, GPS phones will be much in demand in the years to come.

They may also be used to get advanced information about traffic jams. Though there are GPS systems that can be installed in your car and used for most of these purposes, similar features in GPS for cell phones will be more convenient.

You may also be able to know the location of your children and even assist your elderly friends and relatives in dire situations. Hence, these devices can be used to ensure safety, keep track of your whereabouts and stay in touch with loved ones in the future.

The world has truly become a global village due to modern age devices like GPS for cell phones. They help you to stay in touch and watch over your loved ones, besides ensuring your own security and safety.
