Golf GPS Units
Ever Gotten Lost On the Course?
Think About the Advantages!

If you have ever been lost on the golf course, the idea of golf GPS units might not seem too far-fetched because you can find out how far you are from specific points on the golf course.

There are pocket-sized devices that allow you to view an LCD screen that can show you how far you are from the center, front and back of the hole you are on and there are some that feature aerial views of the major signature golf courses.

There are a number of devices and software programs on the market, with a variety of features and price ranges, that commonly help golfers figure out how far they are from the hole and what angle to shoot from.

The questions that some golfers might have would be whether they are necessary and whether they take some of the fun out of the golf game or give an unfair advantage to the golfers that use these golf GPS units.

The advantages can include better shot planning because you can discover where water and sand hazards are and you get accurate distance readings to help you know which club is the best one to use.

With pocket-sized devices, you will typically be able to get up to 10 down-loadable course files, which might be available for free and this can come in handy for the courses you play the most. There are pocket-sized versions for under $100, but there are some of the better golf GPS devices that might cost a few hundred dollars and they are capable of more functions and have bigger memory.

The disadvantages of the smaller, pocket-sized devices might surface when you are playing unfamiliar courses, because you might not be able to get the golf course software information on certain courses or it might cost you on a per course download basis that can be $20 per course download on some golf software programs.

Other disadvantages can include a lack of course information on some golf courses because not all of them have been mapped and plotted on GPS golf software programs, but this is gradually changing.

Probably one of the best features for golfers that use the pocket-sized golf GPS units are they never have to worry about getting lost on the golf course again! Finding user-friendly and affordable golf GPS devices offer many to choose from including golf cart GPS systems, golf GPS rangefinders and the PDA golf GPS options. When you are searching for the best, it is a matter of your personal preference for capability, price and the type of devices that will best suit your needs.

For some golfers, the GPS technology helps them to improve their game and have a better knowledge of the golf courses they are playing on. For those that have the right golf GPS units, software, and devices, this can give them an advantage over competitors and give them accurate distances, par ratings, hazard locations and more about their favorite golf courses.
