Garmin Zumo 550
GPS Motorcycle System

Garmin has managed to keep up its reputation as one of the best GPS manufacturers, with the Garmin Zumo 550 GPS model. Motorcyclists will find this GPS model, with its excellent Bluetooth integration, a navigational boon and asset. Sleek and stylish design, excellent features, and top-notch performance makes this model a must have for happy motorcyclists.

Features

The Garmin Zumo 550 GPS comes with a mount, AC charger, cable to connect to the battery, USB cable for downloading updates and software, DVD for city navigator purposes, informational CD, and lots of other extra goodies. One is definitely getting full value for his dollars.

The design is quite slinky and stylish, in a silver Shell. This compact unit is lightweight, and waterproof. If one really wants to experiment, you can drop the it in 2 feet of water and leave it there for half an hour without its being affected. Motorcycle riders do not have to worry about the handlebar mounted Zumo falling off; it has an extra safety screw attached which prevents such a mishap from occurring.

The 3.5" display screen is UV resistant. The touch screen is glove friendly. Apart from this, you are going to get a GPS receiver receiving 20 channels, North American maps, a view map and an icon connecting your phone with a Bluetooth. Listen to your favorite songs on the MP3.

You could also use the integrated speaker, if you want. The battery is going to give you around five hours of service and the voice instructions ring out loud and clear with traffic alerts and even weather reports. It will also give you alternative routes on the touch of just one button.

This bike friendly GPS device is very user-friendly; it even gives you a warning that you are running low on gas. This device is vibration tested, so you do not need to hesitate in taking it along with you over rough terrain.

Pros

The Garmin Zumo 550 GPS has the ability to provide you with text as well as voice directions. It can be easily installed on your motorcycle or in your car if necessary. All the required maps are loaded beforehand. This model also has a built in MP3 player. Bluetooth integrated system for hands-free function.

Cons

Garmin needs to update the maps as well as the database telling you about the POI in a city. It might take some time to recalculate the route from one point to another automatically. You can use the compass only when the GPS is in an off-road mode. And Mac users are definitely going to be disappointed, because Garmin does not have any Mac support for its MapSource software.

Some users would like the Garmin Zumo 550 GPS system to have a headphone that can be integrated in their helmets, so that they can hear the instructions even better. Garmin may decide to try out this modification in future motorcycle GPS models.
