Garmin Nuvi GPS Navigators

The Garmin Nuvi GPS series has 20 models that are scattered over 6 series: the 200, 300, 500, 700, 800, 1200 and the 5000 series. Each model series is given a base set of features that differ from any other Nuvis to provide a variety of affordable, advanced, pocket-sized and voice activated GPS units.

The 200 series gives you the entry level lineup; the Nuvi 200, 250, 260 and 270 models. These models are given a 3.5-inch screen with internal antenna, optional FM lifetime traffic and less obtrusive profile. The 200W series, which include the 200W, 250W and 260W, models presents entry level units that offer affordable full featured navigation GPS devices with its 4.3-inch screen.

The Nuvi 300 series offers more features with the 350 and 360 models, which are actually the first two Nuvis ever released. Today, Garmin introduces the newer Nuvi 370 units.

The Garmin Nuvi GPS 500m series are known for its multi-mode navigation, waterproof and advanced mapping features. The 600 series, such as the 650, 660, 670 and 680, is more feature laden than the other earlier models. The Nuvi 700 series present the newest addition to the GPS lineup. It is given some exciting high-end features with the internal antenna found in the 200 series.

The 800 series, such as the Nuvi 855, gives you voice-activated GPS navigation features with lane assist. The more advanced Nuvi 1200 series such as the 1200, 1250 and 1260T models give you ultra-thin and feature-rich GPS units.

Let's take a brief look at some of the common Garmin Nuvi GPS features. First, all Nuvis are given touch screen features to allow convenient access through menus and other navigation features.

All are preloaded with up to 48 US state maps, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Some models even have Alaska and Canada maps. Nuvi x70 and 880 comes preloaded with additional European maps. All are given quality map features. Free and paid updates can be enjoyed, depending on the model.

To give you hands-free cell phone operation, some models are given wireless Bluetooth features. This feature is found in the 300, 600, 700 and 800 series. Also, they are given spoken "turn" prompts, except for the Nuvi 200 series.

Garmin Nuvi also enjoys extra multi-media GPS features. It has picture viewer capabilities, simply plug in your SD card. Also, MP3 player capabilities are offered via SD card memory except among 200 series models. You can even listen to FM audio through your car's speaker system.

Extra features like the "where am I?" and the "where's my car?" features enable them to give you the location of the nearest hospitals, police stations or gas stations as well as locate where you have parked your car in large parking lots. The MSN direct features give you live weather, traffic and news updates, all accessible through Nuvi GPS units.

With the number of Garmin Nuvi GPS systems that are entering the marketplace, settling for the best Nuvi unit can be a daunting task. The plethora of new features that each Nuvi model series offers often leave a lot of confusion on the part of the buyers.

These no-bigger-than-a-deck-of-cards units are designed to pack all necessarily navigation and traveling tools with entertainment features and everything else that you can expect from a reliable portable Garmin GPS unit.
